Does anyone remember the Roy Henry's Waffles and Chicken place that was located somewhere off Ben White in south Austin? I was reminded of it when I was watching an episode of 'Til Death the other night and they went to a "Chicken 'n Waffles" restaurant.

Secondly, does anyone know if there is a similar establishment in the Dallas area? I would've posted this in the Dallas thread, but if all those readers have never heard of the tasty goodness that is waffles and chicken then they might think I'm nuts.

One last question...where did that yummy combination come from, anyway???

yummy...I think Snoop Dogg did an episode where he went to a similar kind of place in LA...

There's probably some local 24 hour diner that does the same thing....

I saw that on Alton Brown's Good Eats which is on Food Network. Apparently, it's a Southern thing.

Default I loved Roy Henry's

I used to go there all the time. He was a police officer who had a great idea but not much restaurant experience. Those waffles and the chicken marinade were family recipes. Dang, I miss that place. He told me once that when he and his best friend would go to Los Angeles, the first place they'd head to was Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, which is a pretty famous restaurant out there, and maybe the impetus for whatever other Chicken and Waffle restaurants that exist around the country.

Good luck with your search. If you do find one in Dallas, post it here. If someone wants to open another one here in Austin, I'll be your best customer.

Well, turns out there are a couple of places in Dallas...one being Big Mama's Waffles & Chicken on Forest Ln. Some of the online reviews I've read say that the food is great but the service is lacking. That was the great thing about Roy Henry's...the food was great and the service was excellent.

Anybody ever seen Tapeheads? It's an '80s flick starring John Cusack and Tim Robbins. They run a production company that makes commercials for Roscoe's Chicken 'N Waffles. Definitely a cult classic!
