This may or may not be the best place to post this question but i have had no luck yet on the ACL forums. Are there any hotels/motels within walking distance from the park? Or are they all pretty far out requiring the shuttle? Anyone have any names of places that might be a good place to stay during the festival? I imagine most of the closest places are sold out already but its worth a shot. Thanks for any help.

The Austin Hyatt on Barton springs is probably the closest hotel.
Downtown Austin Hotels, Texas Reservations & TX Accommodations - Hyatt Regency Austin
You could definitely walk from there. All the downtown hotels are very close and a quick cab, bus, or pedicab away. And you could walk (depending on heat and stamina). There are shuttles to ACL that run from Waterloo Park downtown (I think, please double check this point).

I'm guessing that most of those hotels plus the small ones (San Jose, Austin Motel and the B&Bs) are booked. You might try the Clarion at I-35 and Oltorf. They are really pushing themselves as the hotel of SoCo and "trendy 78704"
The Clarion Inn and Suites in South Austin Texas - banquet hall, conference and meeting rooms, free wifi, pets allowed, pool, located in Travis Heights 78704
But they are fairly close. Cheap cab ride down to ACL. Not really walking distance but you could bike. They might have rooms.

Good luck!

You could try the Vacation Owners site, you might find it works to have a small bungalow/condo/apartment for a few days..? There are quite a few in that area

Austin Vacation Rentals - VRBO® is Vacation Rentals by Owner Austin - Austin Hotels, Austin Lodging, Austin Travel and Tourism (http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/texas/hill-country/austin - broken link)

This La Quinta is as close to Zilker as you can get. You are a very short walk to the park from it:

I think the map is wrong on that tripadvisor site. That La Quinta is farther down mopac, almost right at SW Parkway. Unless it's a different one that I'm not aware of, it's not walking distance to Zilker.

Yeah, it looks like you are right. That hotel is a little bit further down based on the map on their website. Still pretty close to ACL, but you'll have to cab it.

Isn't there another one off mopac that is closer to the park?

No, there's not any hotels closer on Mopac. (I work at Bee Caves and Mopac, ACL makes my commute a huge pain) I think the OP woudl be best off looking for a hotel downtown-ish and then cabbing it. Up by the Capital, there's a La Quinta that might work. Don't they have usually parking in the state garages across from Waterloo Park and then offer a shuttle for ACL? The La Quinta I'm thinking of is walking distance to those garages.
