So what's the definition of SW Austin? What is the area that y'all are raving about? Sunsest Valley? Brodie? William Cannon?

I was driving to Southwest Parkway today at 5.00, and I was NOT feeling the SW Austin love when it took me 1 1/2 hours to go from 35th to SWP. Accident. Ugh. I hate Mopac.

So which area ( NW or SW ) has the more liberal, hippie vibe feel to it? Please name specific areas to look ( on Craigslist ) for homes. I have 2 small kids and want to work at a nearby community hospital.

Neither, really. That is more south-central Austin or North-central Austin, I would think....

I would agree with trainwreck - not too many hippees. However we do have our fair share of tree huggers down here (including me).

SW Austin is basically includes Meridian, Circle C, Villages of Western Oaks, Legend Oaks, Sendera, Shady Hollow, Oak Parke, Bauerle Ranch, and other neighborhoods.

Roughly west of Brodie, South of Hwy 290 into Oak Hill plus both side of Hwy 71 from Oak Hill west toward Bee Caves.

Zips 78749, 78739, 78737, 78736 and I'd include the area South of SW Parkway plus Travis Country and also Shady Hollow east of Brodie (western part of 78748).

For hippies, check out the Austin Waldorf School 2.2 miles past Oak Hill. Almost 400 kids attend the school. Lots of old hippies who grew up and made money.

Steve

And if you're lucky (as I was), you'll get to figure out how to make birthday cupcakes with no wheat, no sugar, no eggs, no dairy, and no chocolate. (All those food allergies.) I was exceedingly proud when I pulled that one off! (My daughter attended Waldorf some years back.)

Steve, are the Darcy's still teaching there?

Thanks! I haven't seen them in quite a while, and we sort of lost touch with Jasmine, so I didn't know.
