Pronouncing "Guadalupe" in Austin or San Marcos. (Houston: living in, move to)

It's not meant to be trendy and it's not limited to Austin. Go anywhere in the state and 9 times out of 10 you'll be corrected by someone if you pronounce it wrong It is what it is.

Your comment about US Highway 290 reminds me about US Hwy 183, which has six different names between the Travis and Williamson county lines:

-- From the Bastrop County Line to the Colorado River, it's known as Bastrop Highway.
-- From the Colorado River to US Hwy 290, it's Ed Bluestein Blvd.
-- From US Hwy 290 to Anderson Square, it's Anderson Lane.
-- From Anderson Square to the 12200 block of US Highway 183 (the Travis/Williamson County line) it's known as Research Blvd.
-- From the 12200 block North to Cedar Park city limits, it's US Highway 183N.
-- In Cedar Park, it's Bell Blvd.

It's just what we do. Don't assume we're idiots just because it's the accepted way locally. We pronounce Manchaca, "Man-Chack."

We've been doing it since the streets were named. What gives? Foreigners coming in, trying to correct something that's not to be corrected.

In Lorena, TX there's a body of water called Cow Bayou Creek. I learned that its an English corruption of the Spanish name Caballo (Cuh-bye-o) Creek.

I guarantee you it's not trendy, (nice spelling buddy.) From the day I was born it's been pronounced that way.

If you don't like it, MOVE. Good riddance to bad rubbish! You can't move somewhere, not learn about the local culture, and then assume they are idiots because they don't do something in a manner you think they should be doing it. That's why Texan's hate when "foreigners" (Californian's, New Yorkers, Floridians, etc...) move here. Stay out so we don't have to deal with your snobby, uptight, vain nature.
