Hi there Austin locals!

We've just moved here 2 months ago, and I'm trying to find something similar to CA - outdoor shooting places.

I can only find a couple of shooting places like Red's - but thy all are indoor.
Any place we can shoot on the open air?

Eagle Peak out in Leander. It is way WAY out there but it is my favorite shooting range by far.

They are open every day. EVERY...DAY.

Is that open for public shooting or is it lessons only? I couldn't tell from the website.

I used to love going to Lone Star but it has become extremely crowded and the crowd, in my opinion, isn't always safety conscious. I've also heard ricochets on my last two trips. Not trying to badmouth the place because I've had many good times there just putting it out there for others to make their own decisions. I'm hoping when the new "Range" opens at Slaughter and I35 it will become the go to place for the bachelor party crowd.

what part of town do you live? and what specifically do you like about the california ranges?

best of the west (liberty hill) has the only 1000 yard range. They also have tactical bays where you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Austin rifle club is in manor and is pretty cheap for a membership. They have 200 yard rifle and pistol. You can now shoot steel in many of the ranges. when I go there on weekdays usually there are only 1 or 2 people in the entire place. Usually I have the rifle line all to myself.

If you have more than 50 acres you can make your own range.

Thanks everyone for your responses!
I'll definitely go check all them out really soon
Per California - I don't want to say I like the ranges for some specific reasons, I just was told by my colleague that Probably(!) it is forbidden to organize open space shooting ranges. And I just decided to ask.
What I can only say - I prefer open space ranges to indoors one in general - not too noisy, not too smelly, mych nmore comfortable in my opinion.

I second Eagle Peak.

If you know someone who owns nice chunk of land you can organize "open space shooting" all you want.
