My husband and I have looked at homes in Covered Bridge, (71/Southwest Pkwy). Being new to Austin we weren't sure what the area is like - schools, shopping, traffic to downtown?

I don't know much about it but if you do a search on here you'll find other posts mentioning the "Y" and that it's a traffic nightmare. I also read that there's ways to get around it but it still sounds like a pain since they're going to be doing construction around that area.

The schools are very good in the area. Go to GreatSchools.net

As far as shopping, here is a list of things in the area:
1. HEB - at the Y, or at Slaughter & Escarpment (really close if you go down 1826)
2. Target & Super Walmart - at Mopac & 71 (walmart is currently being renovated)
3. Hill Country Galleria, Marshalls, & Lowes - Bee Caves area
4. Costco & Randalls - at Mopac and William Cannon
5. HEB Central Market - at 71 & West Gate (only takes a few minutes without traffic)

You might want to indicate where you are coming from. If you are coming from another state, there may be some unexpected gotchas you weren't aware of and that no one here would think to tell you because they assume you are moving from elsewhere in state.

What are your hopes and expectations?

Personally, I think it's one of the best areas of Austin in which to live.

I live in Baurle Ranch and love it. The drive up slaughter is a bit slow to mopac but depending on when you leave.
Homes are good, surrounded by greenbelt.Nice area. Close to 35 too.

Circle C is good unlike Steiner Ranch which is growing huge but doesnt have the roads built to fit the traffic. Circle C is built better for the traffic control Baurle Ranch is smaller but has alot of greenbelt they cannot build on.
End of slaughter up at 35 there is everything you need for shopping ,food, its all there SuperWalmart Super Target Pennys,Ross and a multitude of others. The outlet is about 25 min down the road.Homes are also good price and several lease home companies have some nice ones. Eanes Properties is the best if your looking to lease a house.

How do the community amenities in Circle C compared to Steiner? What school district does CC feed into, Austin?

CC feeds into AISD, I think entirely into Bowie, eventually, but not sure on all the Elem. and Middle schools (I think it is all Clint Small Middle School, but not sure).
