All of us "sophisticated" pizza eaters, right?

That's what it comes off like. "You bumpkins have no idea what good pizza/whatever utopian item or custom was in the cesspool you fled is."

Welcome to cultural colonialism. We will be saved from our provincialism, whether we want to or not.

Not sure why everyone is getting been out of shape. Chicago pizza is superior to the pizza we have here. That's like a Chicagoan saying they have better brisket. I'm pretty excited about this news. I'm sure it won't be the same as in Chicago, but it will probably be the best deep dish option we have.

Well that certainly isn't how I meant to come across and I'm very sorry if I offended you in anyway. In my first post on this thread, I slammed tex-mex up north too (for the record, it's horrible, Texas rocks! ). Different regions have different foods that they specialize in. I really didn't think I was saying anything controversial by saying that Austin pizza isn't the best since most people usually talk about New York or Chicago style pizza in the same way people talk about Texas BBQ. I guess I touched a nerve in a few of you guys, and for that, I'm very sorry.

At the same time, I think there were some pretty unnecessary and pretty personal attacks targeted at me as well. There are a lot of transplants in Austin (which is a whole other argument), just like any major metropolitan area, and I think it's normal to want to bring a piece of what you left with. I'm excited about have a Chicago pizza restaurant the same way some one from Philadelphia would be excited about Cheesesteaks or someone from New York would be excited about good bagels. I think it's a little ridiculous to say "go back to where you came from" for certain types of food. Imagine the limited types of food we'd be eating if that was the approach we would take.

Well no. You're just a little defensive and thats OK.

You'll be fine.

There just aren't so many Italian types in these here parts.

I blame Sacco and Vanzetti.

Don't let 'em get to you.

Remember the Old 300 were a bunch of transplants.

Oh, a Chicago pizza chain is coming to Austin to save my soul? Praise God.

Pizza always gets C-D local boards' panties in a twist... I still don't know why people feel like waxing poetic when it comes to pizza because it is entirely subjective. And our family are self-described pizza aficionados because of our roots (not Texas). But I can still find decent enough or pretty good pizza here and be happy enough. Here, I'm not expecting to eat a fantasy as I would with barbecue.

Does Austin have a kick-ass pizza scene? No. Are there a few standout pies for Austin, sure.

And now for the objective subjective assessment that leaves Austin out of it:

Chicago pizza is a hot loaf of bread covered with sauce. I wont refuse it, but it's not the best. The best is 780 miles east of Chicago.

Have you ever tried Via 313?

Then that's what you should have said. You can't say:

and not expect some counter battery fire. You can say I'm excited about a piece of home without calling what's here "garbage".

One thing my father taught me: Don't go to a man's town, and criticize it. Won't end well. You can be all for what you miss. It's the other part that got you in trouble.
