I decided to take my popcorn ceiling down and took down the popcorn ceiling of entire living room, kitchen, and guest room. Peeled popcorn ceiling is still in on the floor (on top of drop cloth). I realized the age of the house later on and got the asbestos testing done (ordered same day result lab testing). Turns out the popcorn ceiling has 5% asbestos!

Now I'm not sure what to do. Do I just get HEPA mask and clean up the mess and then call cleaning crews? Or do I call professional asbestos clean up crew??!

Currently the house is covered with dust and have all the popcorn ceiling peels on the ground but no more stuff to scrape off the ceiling anymore.

I used dust mask the whole time but probably too late now

WHAT do I do ?!!!! please help and if you have experience with any contractors or professionals in Austin area please share.

Thank you!

Just curious. What year is the house. We are getting ready to do the same thing for a house built in 1991.

A & R Demolition has a lot of experience with asbestos, they probably have people who can advise you and help you clean up the rest of the mess.

I think you are safe with anything post 1980 or thereabouts.

I doubt a house built in 1990 would have asbestos anything.

You need to call a professional crew. Sorry, but I don't have any recommendations here in Austin, but we had to deal with it at an old house in Pennsylvania. If it makes you feel any better, it's probably not going to be as expensive as you think. We were surprised at how inexpensive it was to have it removed in PA.

Not necessarily.

Popcorn ceiling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When asbestos was banned in ceiling treatments by the Clean Air Act of 1978 in the United States,[1] popcorn ceilings fell out of favor in much of the country. However, in order to minimize economic hardship to suppliers and installers, existing inventories of asbestos-bearing texturing materials were exempt from the ban, so it is possible to find asbestos in popcorn ceilings that were applied through the 1980s. After the ban, popcorn ceiling materials were created using a paper-based or Styrofoam product to create the texture, rather than asbestos.
1991 should be fine.

Oh no! I hope you have not inhaled any of that asbestos! Hopefully that mask has kept you safe. Are you living in the house currently? Is there dust in the air from the removed ceiling? Do hire a professional asbestos abatement company. Your health is too important to jeopardize over saving some cash and doing it yourself.
