I currently live in DC and am planning to move to Austin in October because DC is too expensive and I want to be closer to family. I currently am studying to become a paralegal and was wondering whether I should start looking for a job as a legal secretary/legal assistant/paralegal before I move or if I should wait until I get to Austin. I only know members of my family in Austin, so I'm not sure where to look or which people I should contact. Any help would greatly appreciated.

Austin doesnt have nearly the number of opportunities for legal professionals as DC and your pay will be significantly less. If you are deadset on Austin (Both Dallas and Houston have a stronger legal market) then you probably should look into working for the State, the County or the City.

Thanks! I've lived in DC for 2 years and understand that there might be less opportunities in Austin than in DC. However, I've had a hard time making friends in DC and I don't feel that I belong here. It's been very hard for me to find a job and people in DC don't come across as being very friendly.
