Bumping this to the top since it looks like a couple of recent posters followed this format.

Also...in addition to "What is an acceptible Commute?", how about a more direct "Where is your Job (or jobs) located???" & that question should be in the first 3.

Can the moderator add a comment and link to this thread in the first post of the Welcome to Austin forum above? I would be all in favor of that!

I sent a BM to Debsi to ask if she could do this, good idea!

I'm thinking about moving to Austin. Sounds like a cool place. Where can i find a good house in a good neighborhood with really good schools? But it needs to be affordable.

Are jobs hard to find? Do they pay good? - I'm Latvian, is Austin diverse?

How's the crime? I don't like crime. - Will I like the music scene? I like music.

Will I be able to walk to Whole Foods?

Does everyone wear a cowboy hat? I don't own a cowboy hat?

Will I be able to ride a train from my neighborhood to my work? (assuming I can find a "decent" neighborhood.....& a job. ).

(just bumping this thread because we're getting alot of newbie posters again. The mods couldn't/wouldn't make it a Sticky, so this thread needs to get bumped from time to time. ALL NEWBIES PLEASE GO TO AUSTIN 97's First Post on the First Page of this thread.)

I've heard that a few families are thinking about moving to Austin. Help us help you:

Where in Greater Austin is your job located (give us cross streets nearby)?
Where are you coming from?
Why are you moving?

Will you buy or rent?
What is your budget ?
What kind of place are you looking for?
Will you hike & ride your bike every day (or just twice a month)?

Will anyone (spouse, children, pets) be moving with you?

Define what you mean when you say you want a "good" school.
(off the charts rigorous? nerdy & tough? good academics & good athletics? good music program, good academics & OK athletics?)

Why are you saying you want a good school "district" when your kids will attend schools? (& often there are fabulous school tracks & below average school tracks in the same district)

Are you looking for diverse? When you say diverse....what do you mean?

Briefly describe the kind of neighborhood you'd like to live in
(examples: families with young children, young, mature, artsy, diverse, safe, close-knit, block parties, Little League? Tennis? Golf? etc)

Are Malls important? WholeFoods or HEB? Trader Joes or WalMart? BBQ joints or Sushi Bars?
