I took the written part of the test and passed. Now I just need to do the driving part but I don't have a car. In order to take the driving test I need to be authorized and insured on the car I'm driving.

They recommend renting a car, but i can't rent because I don't have a license. What can I do?

Find a friend who can rent a car and do it that way otherwise I don't think you have any other options.

But with renting a car, how can he/she show he/she's an authorized driver on the car if he/she doesn't have a license to present to the rental car people?

I think you need to get a relative's car and have them put you as an insured person on their policy. You can then easily be removed as easily as you were added.

You could marry a licensed, insured Texas resident and be covered in his/her rental car. I'd be surprised if you would be covered in a friend's rental.

You need to befriend somebody with a "well-used" car.
You might be able to find a driving school that will let you take the test in their car without having done all the classroom work.
How did you practice to begin with? Or is the driving test so easy these days that somebody can pass it without practicing at all?

Another thought... what do you plan on driving? I could be wrong but you might be able to buy a cheap car to take the test in and use until you're proficient.

I have a permit right now which I assume allows me to try a car. I'm just going to buy renters insurance and hopefully il be able to take the test.

I suggest you call the Department of Public Safety and ask them.

I just remembered... it's been a while, but I've seen people taking their driver's test in cars from driving schools.

You get your actual driving time through your drivers ed. class at school or at a driving school, and once you have enough hours you go to DPS and take your written exam and final driving test with your own supplied car.
