My high school was just as low performing then as it is now, if it has not actually improved a bit. I guess what I'm trying to say is that going to a "lesser" school is not the end of the world that many make it out to be, nor is living in a certain part of town as awful as many believe.

Education really is what the child and family make of it. My classes were far from rigorous (even the AP classes, through which I was able to test out of college classes) but it allowed me to participate in many extra-curriculars and there was very little competition for being in the top whatever % that allows students easier entry into state colleges. I would not have gotten those benefits at another school and I don't think that I was affected negatively by the school path I was in.
