Well, that's a theory, I suppose. But then why is Austin outranked by San Antonio? I mean, when does that ever happen?

The men’s magazine factored in condom sales, birth rates and sales of sex toys in their decision to declare Indianapolis No. 1 on its best sex list – for the second time. (The city also held the top ranking in 2008.) “Every year, the field of drivers in the Indianapolis 500 burns through a ton of rubber, but then so do the locals — Indy’s condom sales are 16th highest in the country, according to A.C. Nielsen data,” the magazine wrote. In fact, the Midwesterners proved themselves a kinky bunch indeed, claiming six of the top 10 slots in all.

No, and if you had actually read the article you would not have asked the question. Their algorithm was a kluge of condom sales, adult toy sales and birth rates. Can you see that being a fair measure of sexual satisfaction? I can't. In other words it is a garbage survey, of little significance, good for a quick laugh and little more. (Although I'm told the folks in San Antonio are really claiming the bragging rights on this one! )

One of the reasons I posted this story is precisely because the disconnect between the conclusion drawn, as featured in the headline, and the data they examined in order to reach that conclusion. I know Top Ten lists that feature Austin are very popular around these parts, with people claiming bragging rights or groaning rights by turn, and discussing the pros and cons with great relish. But there is often little solid connection between what was measured and what conclusions were drawn in creating the lists.

But wait... here comes a new one... Top Ten Sandwiches of 2012... and Austin's Franklin BBQ is on it!!

That is a pretty poor summation of San Antonio.

Oh, Cappy, relax, it was obvious humor. There's no need to take the comment so literally.

Besides, the folks in San Antonio seem think they finally snatched some braggin' rights away from Austin for a change, so they've been trash talking us even more...

For myself, I see the top three cities on the list as being places where there is very little to do, which could be the real causative factor, so I'm actually wondering how Austin made it into the Top Ten.
