We have a 2 bedroom apartment in south central austin and would like to have someone come bi-weekly to just do the basics. The problem is, looking on craigslist, people want like $77 for an apartment.

we just moved in and dont have much to clean, just dust, vacuum, sweep / mop, and the bathrooms. and it's not going to take even two hours to do. a pro would be out of here in an hour and change probably. so that's like $60 and hour. i just cant bring myself to pay that when i make a very small fraction of that.

i would love to pay an hourly rate. anybody got any ideas?

thanks

Good luck with that. People post ads in the "gigs" section of CL to pay hourly, but cleaning people won't answer those ads.

Also, if you do happen to get someone to answer they often will steal from you (had that happen to a friend).

If want it cleaned you'll have to cough up the $77. Even for that, I've found they do a half job.

I'm pretty frustrated with the cleaning people in Austin right now.

start your own cleaning business. If you are frustrated so is everyone else. there is a huge opportunity.

Keep in mind that if they have to travel 30 minutes to your place they need to charge you for that. There is advertising, insurance, cars etc to maintain as overhead. There are probably great housecleaners out there, but you cant find them because they arent spending the money on advertising.

Ours charges $70 for a 2800 sq ft house. But we wont recommend them to anyone except our close friends

Check out Angie's List. Lots of good reviews there.
