Moving out of our rental and purchased a new w/d for our new home.

Is there a charity who will pick up the old ones? They still work, but are probably 10 years old.

Salvation Army is the only one I am aware of that will pick up old appliances. I had a similar situation last year with a working dryer. May I also suggest Freecycle - people on that board seem to be a lot more responsive than advertising something for free on craigslist, but that is another option.

Most places that sell appliances will haul your old ones off when they deliver the new ones if you ask for that in advance.

The City of Austin also has one pick-up day per year when they will haul off your old appliances, the time is different for each neighborhood. They usually send everyone in the area a notice in the mail a month or so before that date occurs.

They don't take older appliances. A friend of mine does a lot of volunteer work for them and I asked and she said they only accept donations of new appliances.
