Hello,

I am a newly single used to be stay at home moving from San Marcos to Austin. For obvious reasons, I have to start working again and I feel like Austin has more opportunity and I do not want to have to commute!

I have been searching all over for a moving company in Austin, but it seems so ridiculous to pay that much when you are only moving 30 minutes away. I guess I could do it myself, but then that would take so many trips and time.

Any suggestions on best areas of Austin to live and reputable and reasonable moving companies would be greatly appreciated!

So far I have looked at:

Blue Whale, seemed a little pricey

Austin Movers, anyone heard of them?

Aloha Moving

If you have any first hand experience with these companies, please respond asap, need to secure something by next week!

Susan

I think he means you get what you pay for.

I had similar thoughts. Odd isn't it how people want cheap and high quality at the same time. Yet we see similar questions quite often. Most of the work is in the loading and unloading. The distance traveled is a minor cost of the job unless you are moving a long distance.

We used Mayflower several years ago when we moved only a few miles into a newer house, and were very satisfied with the service we received.

There are lots of similar discussion threads here asking this same question. See this https://www.city-data.com/forum/searc...rchid=33232601

You should try to live someplace near where you work if you want to avoid commuting in heavy traffic.

I used Unicorn last year, very pleased with them. Most local moving companies have reviews you can find on the internet - that steered me away from some companies and I ended up with Unicorn. We were only moving 7 miles, but moved A LOT OF STUFF.

I have recommended before, and have used (twice) Square Cow Moovers. I can say that they are a quality, local moving company. I don't know that they would be considered to be low cost, however. They will come out and do an estimate, or will do an estimate according to an inventory that you provide (they give you a check list.)

My neighbor had a great experience recently with Westlake Moving: Austin Movers - Westlake Moving Company - Packing & Storage too!

They are local, and reasonable. They are also located between Austin & San Marcos, so that would probably work out well.

Yes! I thought of that exact same thing. There is some essential truth there.
