I just noticed Louis Shanks has an Outlet store in Austin. I am in San Antonio, has anyone ever been there? Is it worth the drive? I need some furniture and I want something nice but I am not in the Louis Shank price category. Wondering how good the deals are at the outlet?

I have been to the Louis Shanks in Austin. I dont know if it is the "outlet" you are talking about, but it was a showroom. I did not find anything there that was less than $2000 dollars, and that was for a desk globe. The actual furniture was mostly in the $8000 and up range for ottomans and chairs.

So no, I don't find that to be a good deal.

I'm not 100% sure that the outlet is still open, it was supposed to a temporary use of a big warehouse space (former furniture store) just down the street from the regular Louis Shanks, it was suppose to close in March 2011. They claimed the outlet had furniture at 50-80% off retail but as Jay noted their regular prices are quite high.

Definitely speak to someone and make sure they are open before you make the drive. I've never found anything in LS to be my taste even if I had an unlimited budget -- huge, Texas baroque furniture.

I have been in the main store on Anderson Lane, and I too thought they were way overpriced, and did not care for the style. I prefer modern. I did not know they had an outlet store. Google maps provides this address for the outlet store, call the number and see if they are open. I tried the number today Sunday, no one answered, no recording. But at least it wasn't disconnected.

The outlet store is in the same shopping center as Container Store and Whole Foods, near the Arboretum, a bit down from where Star Furniture used to be.

I live nearby and have been to the outlet. Don't make a trip if that is your main stop, it's still very expensive.

Meh...I've been to both the store and the outlet. Not worth making the trip. It's the stuff they can't sell and some damaged pieces. Still expensive considering. I was kinda surprised how "junky" the outlet was.

Thank you everyone! I will not be making the trip. I went to the SA store and did see something I liked but I told my mom, if I had to look for and look at the tag, I could not afford it!

If you just wander in... no, you might not like their furniture. All that Tuscan. But some people really like that. However, if you ask for help, explain your style, you'll be shown to a wide range of styles. Great quality, sticker price is nowhere near the price you'd pay during a sale. We have several pieces that were as affordable as anywhere, and they last. So, make sure you'll like what you buy for a long time. No need to buy at the outlet. Wait for a sale.

Never been to Louis Shanks, but I was just in Simply Austin Furniture on SoCo and thought they had great stuff at great prices. Penny (the owner) showed me a couple crazy mirrors and coffee tables..never seen anything like it. Pretty good range of styles, locally owned, good prices. May check them out!
