I know you can meet women anywhere, but I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions in the down town area that are laid back to go grab dinner and a drink after work.

6th seemed like it has a ton of bars, and I'm not so sure about the food during normal hours. My experience is that the best social bars are probably not the ideal place to get great food.

I'm looking for somewhere with good food, but may have some type of small bar.

Hula Hut, Chuy's,

Driskil Hotel Bar has a bar menu that is good.

The Roaring Fork bar next door to the restaurant on Congress Avenue, has a bar menu that is good.

In my opinion, Parkside and Peche have the best happy hour deals - excellent cocktails at both and a half-price bar menu at Parkside, and selected appetizers half-off at Peche. And as the weather cools, the upstairs Patio at Parkside is pretty sweet. Eddie V's also has good happy hour specials, and while the food and drinks are very good, I think they are not quite in the same league as the other 2. I also like Mulberry for after work drinks and snacks. La Condesa is fabulous but expensive.
