I noticed some construction on the side of Brodie Lane close to the Brodie / Slaughter intersection. It appears to be a well needed sidewalk. Does anyone know anything about this project? Will it finally connect the existing sidewalk (ends around Brodie Springs development) to Slaughter?

This would be a fantastic new addition as Shady Hollow residents can finally walk to the shopping center instead of having to drive only a half of mile.

Any information would be appreciated.

That's a poorly thought out sidewalk. There's no break between the road and sidewalk so you can see tire marks were people drive on it to pass on the right. So much so that now there's apparently permanent orange cones set up to dissuade this.

Actually, since this is so common, I'd say it's definitely intentional and thought out...just wrong.

seriously and given that they don't have plans for 45 anytime soon, they should have made Brodie a 2-lane road which would have been much cheaper than 45. Atleast they should have built center turn and right turn lanes. That is another reason contributing to congestion on Brodie south of slaughter.

As of this morning, they are jackhammering up the portion of the sidewalk that butts up against the street. Looks like they may be putting in a curb as the permanent solution. Way to probably spend double what it would've cost in the first place.

This conflict about the widening of Brodie Lane dates back to the 90's if not further. Shady Hollow residents have fought fiercely to prevent it's widening, even going so far as to suggest access to 1626 from Brodie Lane be eliminated. They don't want it widened, because it will beget more traffic from Hays County. It is the primary artery leading into Austin from Hays/Buda as the access to Mopac and I-35 is circuitous route for the majority of these folks.

Thats the problem with Austin infrastructure planners. The primary road between large areas of Hays/Buda and Mopac is a one lane road with lights and which passes through an established neighborhood. Not to mention that it is also the only road for Shady Hollow/Olympic Heights West residents to get to slaughter lane..!!
