For the past 12 years I've been blessed to work an early shift - 6 am - 2 pm. Yayyyy No traffic! Alas, due to being laid off last month, I now have a new job and a new time schedule. What is Mopac like around 7am - coming from South Austin? And what is the best way to head home after 5 pm from Mopac & 35th Street? Lamar? Thanks for any insight...I'm stuck working 8 - 5 for at least 6 months before I can shift to an earlier or later time frame. But I have a job!!!!! That says it all these days!!! Thanks!

I drive it every day at 7am. Pretty much 55-60 MPH from Slaughter until I exit at Barton Skyway. I leave at 5:30ish when I ride the greenbelt MWF but I get on Mopac @ 360 those days. It's still not terrible. Probably 15 minutes to the Slaughter light. There's a few days a month where it takes 25 minutes to go that short distance.

Leaving at 7 am ought not be bad at all, but it does 'peak' out somewhere around 7:50 or so and can be quite frustrating then. I don't drive that far north to work, but on my way home around 4:40, there is a slow down where the traffic from Barton Landing merges and a little of a slow-down where SW Parkway merges, but nothing serious.

I just drove from LTF to City Hall, and it was backed up almost to William Cannon at 9:30 in the morning... with no wreck.

Yes there was. The pile up around 8 and was at near Enfield according to my wife. It was blocking all the lanes. It can take an hour or more after the emergency responders leave and cars are towed for the traffic to return to normal.
