We are moving to Austin and our top priority is to find great schools for our 6 and 4 year olds. We have heard that Eanes, Leander and Round Rock are the best school districts (probably in that order) and that there are some good private schools too. We are not concerned about the High School feeder implications at this point but would like to know the following

1 How are the ratings of exemplary, recognized, acceptable etc determined? How do new schools achieve exemplary status?

2 Which of the schools in Leander and Round Rock would be considered the best and why?

3 What are the relative strengths of the private schools in these districts? Do any stand out?

Thanks

Here is a link that explains how the exemplary status is determined: http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/perfre...ual/table6.pdf
Personally, I would not accept any school that did not receive an exemplary status as a minimum.

St. Stephens is a private school with boarding students from around the world. It is diversified and is a mini-United Nations. I don't think you could find a better private high school and middle school. St. Andrews and St. Michaels are also very good. There are also a lot of private elementary schools that are very good; but I think that the strong elementary schools in the Austin area are as good as the private schools. The difference is in the middle schools and high schools.

I am in Leander ISD and all of the schools are good some better than others, some I would not want my kids to go to but that is because those schools are crowded not because of bad scores. LISD is rolling out some after school type classes..ie Mad Science, cooking etc. DM me if you want more info on LISD if I can provide it I will.
