The new Homegoods opens on Sunday. I've never been in one. Any good?

saw this two weeks ago. My wife and I are excited - no more trips to San Antonio (they have two). They have good stuff, though inventory changes, you can usually find something you like.

I think the only good quality for the money furniture I've bought in Austin is from a Ponderosa pine bookcase builder on Guadalupe even though I did have to stain it myself. Besides that I've had to shell out $$$ for quality furniture from Crate&Barrel, Copenhagen and various antique dealers. Ikea is mostly disposable, moderately stylish junk.

We still have two of those solidly built bookcases in our home, purchased in the late 1980s, still unstained (I'll get around to it someday). Haven't driven by there in a while and didn't know they were still making/selling bookcases. Ours have held up 100%, way better than the junk found in any furniture store.

I'm thinking that most Austin households of any long standing may have or have had one of those bookcases at one time or another! They do hold up, don't they? We bought one as a couple, and when my daughter first went out on her own, that's where she wanted to go to buy bookcases for her first place. (Still has it, as far as I know.)

I don't think of HomeGoods as a furniture store. I think of them more as a home furnishings/decor store. While I do not like stores where I have to dig to find things (think Marshalls, Ross, TJ Maxx), I do like HomeGoods. I have found some great home decor items, gifts, and Bunko prizes in there!

On Brodie, by Academy, Buy Buy Baby, and Bed Bath and Beyond. It's next to TJ Maxx in the old Circuit City space.
