I was ready to go for 3 days again... until I heard about the new mid Sept date. 100 degrees? Think you'll go?

my understanding is that they set the date to be in sync with ut football's schedule (bye week) -- perhaps some input but little influence

It depends more than anything on the roster whether I go. Yup it would be damned warm. But it could still be fun.

Do they ever have passes left by the time they announce the lineup?

hardly any more -- there is a "pecking order" -- early registration for notices when the ducats go on sale (middle of the night email stuff), then open online purchasing -- you know the market they target!

Seems like they could find a better weekend when there is an away game --- Sept is too hot!

Would think about going if it was LATE October, EARLY November ... but I have a snowball's chance in Ach EE Double Toothpicks of going in mid Sept!!

But then I really don't want to go no matter when it's held, as the crowds are just too much!

Yes and no... they'll do whatever to avoid a home game and often try to do it on a bye week. For 2011, it's on the weekend of a road game (@UCLA).
