Check out the section of Westlake South of Bee Caves, west of Mopac, North of Hwy 360, and east of Westbank. Nice pocket area with lots of families and kids and some of the the best public schools anywhere.

Also Lost Creek, south of Hwy 360, also in Eanes ISD.

SW, just do a search for homes in the Oak Hill area by searching 78749, 78739, 78736, 78737 zipcodes. Most feed into great schools and the commute to Westlake from anywhere down there is relatively easy. You'll also get more house for your money.

I live in the pocket of Westlake mentioned above after living in Oak Hill since 1999. We absolutely love it as a location, though we did give up a nice big home for a small older one. But the tradeoff is worth it for us.

Good luck,

Steve

Good advice, Steve.

Crime varies greatly between these two areas, and safety should be a concern considering you have a small child.

For a comprehensive breakdown of crime per these two zip codes, check out: www.krimelabb.com

The difference in crime between Lost Creek (78746) and SW Austin/Oak Hill (78749) is startling. Food for thought.

Good luck on your house hunt, and welcome to Austin!
