Hippie Hollow and other austin area nude resorts (Spring, Barton Creek: sex offender, living)

So, we're big hippie hollow fans - try to make it out once a month or so. Beautiful lakeside lounging with *tons* of sunscreen and interesting scenery to boot.

There are supposedly several nude resorts just right outside of austin, anyone have experiences with any of these places?

Recommendations?

Also, for those of you who have never made the trek out to HH, I highly recommend it.

It's not illegal to be naked in Texas. My wife and kids were at Barton Springs last week and there was a woman strolling around topless. It's no big deal.

Last I heard, Hippy Hollow had turned into mostly a gay hangout, with mostly a lot of men. I haven't been there since the mid-late 1980's, but back then it was a really cool place with a good mix of guys and gals.

As I understand it (and I have not tested it) you can basically go as naked as you want as long as it is not creating, or intending to create, a public disturbance. Very vague, but if you start strolling down Congress au natural, you will probably get stopped.

Certain places it is pretty much understood to be acceptable, so take fair warning - Bartons Springs, many places along Barton Creek, and, of course, hippie hollow.

An excerpt from his article quoting state law:

Section 21.08 (Indecent Exposure) of the Texas Penal code says: "A person commits an offense if he exposes his anus or any part of his genitals with intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person, and he is reckless about whether another is present who will be offended or alarmed by his act." It's a Class B misdemeanor, which carries a maximum fine of $2,000, or 180 days in jail, or both. Two convictions of indecent exposure requires the person to registor as a sex offender, according to the Metro & State Briefing in the July 8, 2006 Austin American-Statesman.

Section 42.01 (Disorderly Conduct) says: "(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly: ... (2) makes an offensive gesture or display in a public place, and the gesture or display tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace; or ... (12) exposes his anus or genitals in a public place and is reckless about whether another may be present who will be offended or alarmed by his act." This is a Class C misdemeanor, which carries a maximum fine of $500 and no jail time.

Actually, I think somewhere else in the laws (probably definitions) it covers that 'he' refers to both male and female .

favorite trick of my friends dad while we were water skiing on the lake was do a sharp turn or slow the boat way down so we would dump right near hippie hollow!

When we lived in CA, Berkely had the famous naked lawyer. he would walk to work nude but dress shoes and a brief case! But they finally made a no public nudity law with in the city limits or something.

There are indeed many gay (and a few lesbian) couples at HH... but there are a good number of straight couples too.

I think that alone ought to keep even the most adveturous persons from personally even testing the waters of the "not illegal to be naked in Texas" laws. Wow, imagine the stigma of living with a "sex offender" label around your neck for the rest of your life.

Stop it with the mostly gay patron stuff. Me and my wife used to go there every weekend and sometimes through the week from 1993-2010. There is usually a nice mix of people. The gay people have a area towards the back of the park. By choice . And they never have bothered anyone. They rarely even get totally undressed. We live in Colorado now and I really miss it.
