How are the coffee shops in Austin? I'm sure a google search would rectify but any first hand accounts would be cool. Thanks

We are lucky to have all kinds of fun coffee shops in addition to Sbucks. The AAS just did a report on 100 coffee houses in Austin. My favorite? Pacha.

Epoch is my favorite-- and it's 24 hours.

A lot of the "coffeeshops" in Austin (including Epoch) aren't just coffeeshops. A lot have full or wine/beer bars and food available--sometimes pre-made and sometimes made to order. They're all-around hangout places, rather than just coffeeshops.

Here's the link to the article: 10,000 coffee shops* (broken link)

I personally like Epoch, too. Around finals time, it gets pretty crowded.

Halcyon in downtown is pretty fun. They have a full bar and you can make your own s'mores!

And I like going to The Hideout for poetry nights or catch a comedy show.

Just walked to my nearest coffehouse: Summer Moon - they wood-fire their beans somewhere nearby in the Hill Country, using only a brick oven and mesquite. 100% family-owned. Yum.

I like Flipnotics and Clementine, but I'm not telling my favorite hang out - it's already busy enough!

Ruta Maya will always be my favorite coffee shop, even though it's so far south for me that I never get to go. The Hideout on Congress is also pretty good.

Definitely the best coffee roaster in town. I always feel compelled to buy a cup of their brewed coffee too (just a buck) when I go to get some beans.

I used to live down the street many years ago and walked to Spiderhouse a lot. I really liked it.
