Hi all,

I will be moving in to my new apartment in Hyde Park soon and I need to set up internet service. I'm interested in your experiences and recommendations.

I've only looked at some big names so far; Right now I am leaning towards AT&T because they have better deals (price-wise) right now. ("Elite" package for $25/month for 1 year; speed is up to 6mbps down.) Time Warner is also in the mix, maybe. Or, anything else you might recommend, though I'm not sure how availability works in an apartment building.

My main concern is I do a bit of online gaming, Team Fortress 2 mostly. Anyone have experiences with AT&T in particular or just DSL vs. Cable for the purposes of gaming? Someone commented that DSL is more reliable for gaming (consistently lower pings versus "spikes" using cable) but is overall slower for downloading stuff. If it's true I'd go with DSL because other than not having a laggy gaming experience I am patient about large downloads.

Thanks for any help you can offer!
-Stacy

Consider Uverse also (offered through ATT).

Thanks xtalman! I didn't realize U-verse wasn't only a package deal (I am looking for internet only.) Unfortunately, it looks like it's not available at my apartments.

No edit tool on this forum? Anyway, the number I quoted up there for AT&T is in fact, only if you combine it with phone service. Looks like I can't find anything for less than $40!

I had Time Warner for 4 years and had no problem with online gaming (Xbox Live or Playstation Network). I recently switched to Clear and it works just as well for gaming. You can check your coverage (its wireless internet) on their website.

It will be tough finding anything under $40 for just internet. They mainly give discounts when you bundle.
