Hi, I'm moving to the Augusta area in March and I'm looking for a safe, and nice apartment or townhouse. Any suggestions?

Are you looking to simply rent or buy? Just bought a home and couldn't be happier. $20k off the asking price. Usually soldiers stick to apartments communities on Wrightsboro or some in Grovetown. Depends on the price range. Those locations are closest to Gordon.

It depends on your price range... Brigham Woods, Parc at Flowing Wells, Estates at Perimeter, The Dunnington, Avalon, River Park Commons, Mayo Townhomes, Springhouse, Century Glen, and Century Hlls are nice and safe areas...

I would look around Wheeler road, West Wheeler Pkwy, Perimeter Pkwy. Alexander Road, and Stevens Creek road...

If you don't mind me asking... What neighborhood/area did you move in?

I moved in Elderberry in front of Gate 1 late last year. There's actually another home that has been on the market for nearly a year and supposedly the builder is very motivated. Not motivated enough for me, but its worth a look if someones interested.

How many builders are in the area? Is there more than JR and Crown?

Good choice... With the current construction of new homes in Granite Hill and the land clearing for new homes in Elderbery. The neighborhoods of Granite Hill, Elderberry, Breckenridge, Buckhead, Asbury, and Barnett Crossing will connect to each other by the end of this year... Along with the new neighborhoods/homes underway on Belair rd and Gordon Hwy btw Jimmie Dyess parkway and the city of Grovetown.. The area is definitely growing and future high growth area and the property values will continue to rise.... The 25 acre shopping center near the Zaxby's will be a big plus.. The residents of Granite Hill, Elderberry, and Breckenridge can actually walk to the shopper center. They're supposed to built out the whole area until it reaches the strech of Barton Chapel road between Gordon Hwy and Wrightsboro rd.. They also want to build a gym/park in Asbury, but so homeowners don't want it..

I'd imagine the traffic on Jimmie Dyess won't be friendly in the future.. Heading down Jimmie Dyess towards Fort Gordon in the morning is already a pain especially if you're trying to make a left onto Gordon Hwy...

I am also moving to gordon in March, but I am only in town for 6 months for Captain Career Course. I was into town a couple weeks ago looking and I really liked Marks Church Commons off Wheeler, it was a great mix of distance to gordon and lots of places to eat, target etc right there. Having said that I ended up going with Enterprise Mills because I am from the northeast and I love the old converted mills. I am coming from Fort Stewart down the road and I live in Savannah, so I am used to driving 40 minutes to work already and even though Augusta isn't anything like Savannah there was still enough to live downtown. Yes it can be dangerous, but its just like anything else, if you are smart about what you are doing and don't put yourself in any stupid situations that takes care of 98% of it. The Mills has good parking lot lighting and on site security so I felt safe there.

I am looking to rent for now and after I'm familiar with the area, I want to buy.

Wilson Parker and Crown are the only builders left here, as far as I know. It's funny your bring up the 25 acre shopping center, because my wife had mentioned that there was so much land available right next to Zaxby's for some type of shopping center, or Publix/Walmart if she had her way.

You are definitely right about traffic on Jimmie Dyess in the future. Even now, around 8am, it's a nightmare. I never go that way around that time though. I take a right on Jimmie Dyess to Wrightsboro and then take the right next to the Autoparts store all they way up to Gordon Highway and bypass that all together. Hopefully in the future, they'll put traffic lights up.

Your choice of course, but just so you know the community that I live in is literally a 2 minute drive to the main gate at Fort Gordon and I'm thinking that by the time you finally decide to buy a home, you will have missed out. Depends on the timeline of course.
