Which car should I go with?

Brand new Audi A4 or a used 2017 Audi A7 with 31k miles.

I know the smart buy is the audi but I love the A7 and don't want to buy new. They are similar in price.

The A4 is not a smart buy. It does not compare to an A7.
CPO A7... take advantage of the epic depreciation of luxury cars.

I bought a pre-owned Cadillac (it had a sticker price of $67K) with about the same number of miles as what you're looking at.
Got it for $27K and I'm very happy with it. I intend to do this again in the future... I already know the best place to get an ELR.

There are leftover, new 2018 A6 going for up to $20,000 off MSRP, if your Audi dealer has some left:

Volvo > Audi at least for the lower-middle level Audi's. However of those two I'd get an A7, they're very nice cars.

Neither.....

Why bother spending money on a "blah" Audi like that. Get a S4/S6/S7 (new or used) instead and drive a real one.

Depending on how long you plan on keeping it, keep in mind the cost of some of the maintenance. And I'm sure it all depends on what year and engine you have. A friend owns a shop and actually has gotten a couple of A4's extremely cheap because the owner couldn't afford the $8k timing chain cost. He has an R8 in his shop now for a timing chain...$12k for that.

I love Audi, and being a designer in the automotive business , they have been the benchmark other automotive OEM's have used for at least the last 10 years.

I have an Audi S4 Avant and like it a lot but that A7 sounds pretty good.

Miles are a bit high for a 2017, but I would likely go with the A7, provided you got a good extended warranty thrown in the deal.
The electronics on the German luxury cars can be an expensive nightmare, post factory warranty, so, I personally would not buy a used Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz without an extended warranty.

A7, especially if it is a used Certified car.

If you are buying the car, I think the pre-owned A7 is a no-brainer—especially if it is CPO. Let someone else (a lessee like me) take the depreciation hit.
