Take a look at the new A5 or S5 Fastback. I have a 2015 S5 Cabriolet and am loving it. My wife has a 2017 Q7 and loves hers. She had a Q7 before that and an A6 before that. All solid.
And she came from the Volvo Cross Country before that and I had a 3-Series BMW. We love our Audis.
If you like the look of the new TT, is there a reason you aren't looking at it more seriously? Also, what do you mean by "intro"? The fit/finish of an A3 is not going to be the same as the TT. Same as the driving/handling experience.
All that aside, if you want to fall in love with Audi and the direction they are going technology-wise, you should look at the newly refreshed models that offer the Vision Package (the full digital dash). It's far, far ahead of the competition. These same cars also have CarPlay, etc that wasn't available until now. The jump in tech from my brand-new 2105 and the stuff they have now is HUGE.
This thread has been dormant for 7 months, but thought I 'd throw my .02 in since I've had about that much time to evaluate it. The S3 is a great "intro" Audi. The car is incredibly fast, nimble and drives wonderfully. It's a little spartan as far a some of the options but I really don't miss too many of those from when I drove the A4. You can haul a family of 5 around in it as a sedan (a little cramped but not bad) or you can drive it as a sports car. When you put it in dynamic mode it's a bat out of hell. Close to 300HP on a pretty light car.
