I love them but don't own one (yet!). Strong motor but since gas prices have fallen the dealers aren't stocking many diesels. A8 has the same motor. Resale is titanic bad, carmax has cars with less than 10K miles on them (2014-15 models) for 40% off the original MSRP.....ouch!

I have yet to see a 2014 A6 TDI in the mid 30s for price. Everything I have seen puts them around mid 40s.

Can you link me to one in the mid 30s?

2014 Audi A6 TDI Premium Plus 4D Sedan

Carmax shows 3 nation wide.

My local dealer has one for $95,500 MSRP on a 2015. His recertified stuff is high 60's and they were short wheelbase stuff. The argument I am having with myself is that I can buy a used A8L for the same money as a new A6 without taking the depreciation hit. Now if I could find a used A6 with the sport package I could really have hard decision to make!

Low gas prices are killing diesel ownership right now as the car makes less sense to buy!

You lost me there....

The national average of diesel is almost the same as gas. That makes it even wiser to be driving a diesel car right now.

why BUY fuel?

just make your own or use any of a dozen diesel alternatives.

You only need to fuel once a month or so... (1250 miles / tank in my TDIs)

I ponder that every fill up but I don't drive enough to deal with it. And I don't want to kill the resale of my ALH Jetta.

The buyer's mentality is different with low gas prices. Its just like when it costs $100 to fill the thirsty SUV then everyone rushes to buy a Prius. When your XYZ car costs less to fill, then the diesel consideration goes out the window! People also still consider diesels smokey/slow/dirty which they definitely are not!

The BMW diesel 7 series has been a flop, the 5 series isn't far behind. Mercedes hasn't brought the diesel S class back for the new model as that was a poor seller for them also.

I suspect the trade values offered by dealers will be abysmal especially as some of these cars get closer to being out of warranty!
