I am planning on moving to the Atlanta area in the near future. I would be working off Peachtree street and I am looking for a rural area to move to. I am interested in a home on 5+ acres with a drive of no more than 1-1 1/2 hours each way. Suggestions?

Your best bet is to go west of town to get a rural feel...generally, the city loses density faster going in that direction as opposed to north, east or south. My immediate recommendations would be Paulding, Douglas or Carroll Counties, particularly Hiram (Paulding), Villa Rica (Douglas/Carroll line) or Carrollton (Carroll).

Alot depends on your work hours- if you're working 9-5, a 1.5 hour commute won't get you to many 5-acre areas. If you can go in early and leave early, you'll have more options.

Some areas that come to mind are Dallas, Cartersville, Villa Rica, Bremen, Carrollton, Newnan, Griffin, Covington, Monroe, Gainesville, Dawsonville, and Canton.

Actually, the rural-like suburbs to the west and southwest (mentioned by Lovin Decatur and others) offer better, faster access to Downtown Atlanta.
Milton is nice though...and "rural-ish/rural-esque."
