Where is the best place in Atlanta to buy a bed and/or mattress in Atlanta? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am planning on buying my fiance this for Christmas....

Thanks in advance

While it's not someplace people generally think of, Costco has good deals, though there's usually only a couple to select from. Higher-end ones for medium prices. You usually save a couple hundred off other stores. Each store varies though, so you have to visit one. And whatever you do, don't go into one of these hole in the wall "mattress magic/world/emporium/universe/whatever" type places in the strip malls - they're notorious for selling stuff that may be "refurbished" (say USED and rebagged), etc.

Here are a few tips for people who are mattress shopping.

1) Go to a few places with NO INTENTION of buying. For example, go to Macy's Home and hang out a bit, figuring out what you like / want in a mattress, and then research it online. Remember, you have NO INTENTION of buying right away.

2) Read this: Mattress Negotiations (Tips 1-3) - Buying Guide - Mattress

3) Never tell the salespeople the truth about how long you've been visiting stores. Market research as conducted by mattress industry analysts suggest that consumers tend to get very confused and frustrated by the process and tend to buy from the third store they visit.

You'll notice that the salespeople will ask "How many places have you visited so far?" and they are very motivated to get you to stay in the store as long as possible, because they fear you'll walk away and give that money to the next store.

So, use that in your favor. When they ask how long you've been shopping, tell them you've just started (even if it's a lie). It gives you the upper hand in bargaining.

Remember, they don't want you to leave.

4) Take a web-enabled phone (iPhone, etc.) with you and price-check their offer.

One of the more frustrating aspects of mattress-shopping is the manufacturers' practice of assigning multiple names to the exact same product.

When you find a mattress you like, search the web to see what the same model is called at other stores, and use that info to empower your bargaining.
