My daughter is currently ending 5th grade. For 6th, she will be going to Sutton Middle School. I've heard it's not such a wonderful school and the dress code is too strict for a public school. What are your reccommendations for private schools? Can you tell me about these schools?

I've heard of Woodward, Pace, Lovett, Westminister, Holy Innocence, and I think that's about it. I've checked out sites for many of these schools, but I'd like some help. Thanks!

If you haven't already gotten your acceptance letter to a private school for 6th grade, you'll be going to Sutton. The whole application process started in the Fall - last Fall. And from what I hear, it was ultra competitive this year. We applied to five schools, got accepted at Holy Innocent's, Lovett and St. Martins and wait-listed at Westminster and Pace.

I know many people who are happy at Sutton -- and do you think most private schools have lenient dress codes? At least, you aren't paying tuition and then a fortune for uniforms. I love uniforms in public schools, so I wouldn't call this a negative.

Sutton has an IB programme -- that is a real plus.

You are probably too late for any private school with a decent reputation. You will have to wait until next year -- Give Sutton a chance you might just like it. (Though you might try St. Martins and Mount Vernon Pres -- I think I heard that both these schools have some openings still -- though I am not sure in which grades.)

I have heard that Woodward is a really good school. Sorry don't know about the rest.
