We received our property tax bill and were pleased to see that our appraised value had not changed (it should not have, but you never know) and our taxes were still where they were last year.

Did anyone receive any surprises this year?

Yep, taxes went up even though assessed value stayed the same (In reality the property value has gone done). I believe the increase was for the City of Atlanta though so it may not have been the Fulton part.

I believe ATL residents saw a 40% property tax increase. For once they left the assesments and millage rates alone. I believe that in the time I've lived here (about 16 years) they have increased one of the three 10 times or more!

Don't depend on gossip and rumor. Property taxes vary. Some qualify for a homestead exemption. Value is set by actual sales of similar properties within the tax year. County tax officials are generally decent people who will help when asked. SO call and ask them, don't work with rumor.

You can check actual taxes yourself. IT"S EASY. Simply write down the address of a similar property. Google the County Tax Collector web site, type in the address and see what the actual taxes are. [mod] no advertising [/mod]
