We are a family of four moving from the Weston (S. Florida) area to the Atlanta area. We have spent some time in the Alpharetta area and we were wondering what would be the best areas to look into. We have driven by some beautiful communities in the areas such as Windward, Seven oaks, Oxford Mills, etc. We are interested in a diverse community where some jewish families might live and send their kids to the public school. Being in a great school distric is important. We both work out of the house and commuting will not be an issue. Both or our kids are in elementary school and we are in the $400K to $475K price range. I know I am all over with this post but hopefully somebody out there might have gone through the same situation.

With that price range you can afford to live in dunwoody. It's more expensive but that's where the Jews are.
I hate to generalize.. there are jews everywhere but coming from weston, fl to alpharetta, ga..... dunwoody will feel more like home.

Besides Alpharetta is where the rest of florida has relocated to. Do you really want that?

Far more young Jewish families in East Cobb than Dunwoody these days. Dunwoody has lots of Jewish people, but many are older and now empty nesters. Also, keep in mind that Dunwoody is in both Fulton and DeKalb. Many Jewish families on the Fulton side use the day schools rather than public school.

There are certainly Jewish families in Alpharetta but not nearly the number you would find in East Cobb.

nah...not true at all. Dunwoody is a thriving community (both Jews and non-Jews). Large amount of young Jewish families...East Cobb is nice too...as is Alpharetta...
You haven't mentioned work at all...is this happening closer into the city? If so, you may want to consider living closer in...such as Dunwoody. But you'll get newer house for less $ in Alpharetta. Honestly, a great RE agent can help you. There are some great ones if you look at the Jewish newspaper (Atlanta Jewish Times) to help you with all of your questions and put you in the community you're looking for. Amy Iroff of Remax, Debbie Sonenshine and Robert Tourial are just a few that come to mind. Good luck!

They are working from home.

Dunwoody is vibrant and there are certainly a lot of young Jewish families but I think the number is larger (and certainly the percentage in public school) in East Cobb more so than both Dunwoody and Alpharetta.

Sweetea gives you great advice and those are good realtors to start with.

You won't go wrong in any of those locations.

Do you have friends/family here? Do you have an idea about what temple or synagogue you want to join? That can also guide you since Hebrew School is probably right around the corner for your kids.

East Cobb & Roswell would be a close second to Sandy sprs & Dunwoody. And Dunwoody would be a close second to Druid/Toco Hills. The farther out you go, the less jews there are. I don't know why anyone would choose to live in Alpharetta at this point. It used to be pretty with all the trees and shopping centers and brick buildings but it's become rediculously over-developed for that distance from the urban core. If you're going to put up with alpharetta traffic and pay alpharetta prices, you might as well move closer in.

Before I ask my realtor (since I like to do my own research first) what zip codes do you suggest I search on realtor DOTcom to find East Cobb? I tried just typing in East Cobb and came up with nada.
thanks
