My job is transferring me to their Atlanta office within the next 6 months. I would have originally been working in their office near the airport and at the time we were researching Jonesboro...

Around the same time that they decided I would be working from their office in N Atlanta (Glenridge Dr NE), I discovered this forum and the bad happenings in and around Clayton County (crime, schools, home sales, etc)...

So, the search starts all over again.

We are looking to rent an apartment close to my office to keep my commute short for the time being. We live in NYC and our rent is currently $750/month for a 1 bedroom in Queens. Can you suggest the best places to look that are near to the office (aside from Craigslist, which I am already looking at).

How is that neighborhood? Last time I was in Atlanta (May), we stayed near Doraville and spent our time South of the city so I have never been in that area...

Also, we're newlyweds and looking to purchase a home in the next year. Can you suggest areas that aren't going by the way of Clayton County that are within 45 min commute to N Atlanta? We are looking to spend less than 200K so I know I've just priced myself out of places like Atlanta, Sandy Springs.... But I'd really like the expertise of locals on this one.

Thanks in advance. I've read a lot of the threads on here and you all have a wealth of information.

Look for an apartment in the Vinings area, just inside I-285 and I-75, near Cumberland Mall. You won't have to stay on I-285 THAT long in order to get to Glenridge Dr. Nice area to live in, though you won't be able to buy a house in Vinings for $200k when you're ready to do that (MAYBE a condo, though).

I must disagree. If you are working near Glenridge the traffic getting there on 285 is horrific (trust me, I've been doing it for 4 years). Get an apartment or rent a house in Sandy Springs. There are GREAT deals near the Johnson Ferry, Brandon Mill and Dalyrimple corridor. Dunwoody and Ashford Dunwoody also have nice complexes and you can get a two bedroom for around $1100, a one bedroom for less than $1000.
Look on Craigslist for all, but try to stay near the Glendridge area.
