Visiting Atl soon & would like to know which restaurants have the best soul food in Atlanta & also the best Latin Caribbean food in Atl. I saw a video on grips on YouTube and it looks good. Can someone confirm ? And I know Atl doesn’t have a high Puerto Rican population like nyc which is where I’m from but I love my Spanish food lol. Would love to know who has the best baked Mac & cheese and fried chicken. Also keep in mind I don’t drive so I’ll be using MARTA to get around. I don’t mind walking anything less than a mile from the train station “20 minutes or less” I walk fast

If you’re limited to Marta then it makes recommendations a little tougher. As far as Soul Food goes I think Busy Bee Cafe really is the best. However, I don’t think they have the best baked mac&cheese but their cornbread dressing and key lime cake is fire. Really any entree at Busy Bee won’t disappoint and it’s just west of downtown on MLK not terribly off the beaten path. You need to be careful walking in that area though if you’ll be walking from the nearest Marta station. There’s also Paschals off Northside Dr just a couple blocks from the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Not Puerto Rican but Papi’s (Cuban restaurant) in midtown is actually really good if you want good Latin food. I actually like South City Kitchen and Suite Food Lounge for brunch as well. All these restaurants are downtown/midtown and easy to get to via Marta or you can walk if you’ll be staying in midtown/downtown. I can recommend more places but if you’re planning on just using the Marta train and walking then that’s all I can think of but I’m sure others will chime in.

Pandemicjoe, I definitely recommend using transit + Uber to get around if you can. This combo will definitely increase your mobility plus you will be able to experience much more in the area. Please don’t limit yourself to just Marta (rail and bus) as your experience will be extremely limited.

Regarding you questions:

Puerto Rican (There are a lot more Cuban restaurants here than Puerto Rican but most Puerto Rican restaurants are in the suburbs but here are some near the city) -

1. Raul’s Latin Kitchen & Catering (Southern Kitchen and Grill is located here too, not your typical restaurant) - https://yelp.to/h2bavuoTkrb
2. Slapping Tacos ATL - https://yelp.to/pB49nE4Tkrb
3. El Super Pan (I don’t think it is Puerto Rican, but I keep hearing good things about it) - https://yelp.to/t8acK4jWkrb
4. Rico Rico Latin Kitchen - https://yelp.to/WhbQclNSkrb

Soul Food
1. Southern Kitchen and Grill (Raul’s Kitchen & Catering is located here too, not your typical restaurant) - https://yelp.to/g7tB44MUkrb
2. Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours (very good, look up the chef) - https://yelp.to/jczPHMUUkrb
3. Roc South Cuisine (Please try this place before you leave, the mac and cheese is delicious, and good vibes) - https://yelp.to/SfnzVDXUkrb
4. Ray’s Southern Foods (This is one of my go to places when I visit home) - https://yelp.to/njdhmLuVkrb

Brunch
1. Atlanta Breakfast Club (An absolute must try if you can wait a long time. Use the Yelp Waitlist to your advantage) - https://yelp.to/HsAqKXzVkrb
2. Buttermilk Kitchen (Love this place, good chicken biscuits) - https://yelp.to/c10gvrGVkrb
3. The Real Milk and Honey (Not to be confused with “Milk and Honey”, although it is good too) - https://yelp.to/G0ztCcLVkrb
4. Snooze An AM Eastery (very good but a long wait. Use yelp’s waitlist to your advantage) - https://yelp.to/3QvPXhXVkrb

Other Places To Try Outside of Your Requests
1. Poor Calvins (Asian/Southern fusion - absolutely delicious) - https://yelp.to/RK8aBVaVkrb
2. Barcelona (Great food and atmosphere) - https://yelp.to/PYVbuBEWkrb
3. Casi Cielo (Definitely some of the best Mexican food) - https://yelp.to/VA9qo0KWkrb
4. Bulla Gastro Bar - https://yelp.to/vyF97S4Wkrb
5. Slutty Vegan (You can’t come to Atlanta without trying this place) - https://yelp.to/xJoeuBFXkrb

Yes I’ll try to Uber and there for the restaurant’s if I have too. But being a New Yorker I really don’t mind walking if sidewalks are still available. Thanks for the recommendations

Mary Mac’s Tea Room is about as Southern as it gets. Located in Midtown and is a reasonable walk from MARTA (Civic Center). Also, it’s located next to Papi’s Cuban Grill.

Also, check out the Blaxican Mexican Soul Food Truck for Black and Hispanic fusion cuisine.
