Hello! My husband and I (mid 30s) currently live in Marietta and while it's been an amazing change from Orlando where we previously lived, we're itching to get more land and more nature. I work fully remote and my husband is half remote and is ok with up to a 90 minute commute. He can work off hours to beat traffic. So long as we have a good internet connection we're set. We're looking at the Jasper area as I've heard the downtown offers some restaurants and amenities, while still having a lot of small town mountain feel to the area. I've started to fall in love with the Bent Tree community and the home prices are great, but I'm worried it may be all retirees and vacation homes. Does anyone know much about living in this area as a young family?

Jasper is great. Have you looked at Dahlonega or Clayton Ga? Dahlonega has the added bonus of being a college town. Clayton has a ton of charm and more to do than Jasper. In addition, if based in Clayton, you could use Rabun-Gap Nacoochee School or Tallulah Falls School if you were unhappy with the public school situation.

I looked up the Bent tree community you mentioned, and I'm seeing things like shuffle board, golf, bridge club, and "active adult." None of these are bad things but their marketing does seem to imply elderly.

I get why you're asking, as a 30's couple with young kids myself, I would want peers and other families with young children nearby

My parents live in Bent Tree and they love it. I will say that a lot of the population is older but there are some younger families in the community. They offer summer camps and things for children during the summer that our family loves.

Thanks all! We checked out Bent Tree this weekend and Jasper may be a bit too isolated for us. Bent Tree is so beautiful, but it felt pretty empty, like a lot of seasonal homes. Dahlonega is next!

FYI Dahlonega is further out than Jasper in the grand scheme of things. It’s a lovely town though.
