I'm looking to move in the near future, and there's a good chance my job will be in Atlanta.

I will be making about $40,000 working at the Emory medical center. I will also be traveling to hospitals all over Atlanta such as the Shepherd Center, Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center, VA Medical Center, and Grady.

I have a very strong preference for new apartments, in part due to my indoor allergies which are harder to deal with in an older place. Here in Columbus, I've been able to rent 2 different brand new 1 bedrooms right on the outskirts of town while commuting to class everyday.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to live as far out in Atlanta because the city is bigger and the traffic is worse. Are there new developments within a few miles of Emory, and are they affordable given my salary? Which other parts of town with a decent commute to Emory and the above named sites would you also consider looking in?

There aren't a lot NEW apartments near Emory CDC. There's a somewhat new one on N Decatur Rd, and one off Sheridan that I think is somewhat new. Both are within 5 miles of campus - sorry I don't remember the names. I think the one off Sheridan is a Post property.

Oh, and off Briarcliff, closer to Clairmont there are some newer apartments. They lack any interest, etc, but I think they're new. If you walk or ride your bike from there, though, you'd have to deal with the nasty traffic that happens at the intersection of Briarcliff and N Druid Hills Rd....
