This country exists because of progressive or "liberal" concepts.

Having a written document (the United States Constitution) guide the governing process during our continuing democratic experiment was and continues to be a pretty progressive (or "liberal") forward-thinking concept in the greater scheme of things, especially in a world historically dominated by decidedly non-democratic governing processes.

Our nation simply would not exist were it not for the progressive (or "liberal") thinking of this nation's founding fathers.

Absolutely spot on. The conservatives at the time of the Revolution were Tories loyal to the British.

Liberals *were* the founders.
