How would you describe the rush hour commute from Austell to Downtown (Turner Field area)? I know I-20 would be the common route, but are there any other routes?

It's not going to be the best commute. Yes, I-20 is the most direct route, but to get from Austell to I-20 will be a chore. Thornton Rd. is very congested. Your only other non-highway route is to take Bankhead Hwy/Veterans Memorial into Downtown, but that route goes through some sketchy areas.

Have you considered using Xpress?

And in case you aren't aware, "Xpress" is an express commuter bus service in metro Atlanta that serves limited A.M. and P.M. bus service into and out of the city on weekdays.

Their home page is: Xpress GA - Xpress Home and the system map and vitals can be found under their "Xpress Home" link near the top of the main page.

If you head towards Veterans Memorial, you can cut across Bolton Rd and then take Marietta Blvd or keep going down Moore's Mill which will take you through a less sketchy area. However, considering I-20 is listed as one of the least congested in metro ATL, you may just want to try your luck on it. I think you should be pretty good until you get to the 85/75 connector.
