I may be moving to Marietta very soon. I may be nuts but I'm looking for a public course somewhere in the area that allows walking and has reasonable greens fees for a walker ($18-25) or has a reasonable yearly membership fee. I don't mind driving 30-45 minutes out. Am I out of luck?

There are two executive courses on Windy Hill, Legacy and Fox Creek. Legacy is nicer, but kinda short.

If you find yourself in the city Candler Park has an executive course. I think it's $10 for "out-of-towners" and $7 for people who live in the neighborhood.

It's a walk-only course.

Candler Park Golf Course - Atlanta, GA

(the link indicates the clubhouse is under renovation but I believe those renovations are finished - it's a cute little clubhouse in a tudor style house.)

I moved closer to Athens and find the golf courses outrageously beautiful, Came from flat courses in So.Fl and added 10 strokes to my game here but they are gorgeous.Don't know where you are coming from but they go dormant in winter here. They sure are green in spring and summer though. I love the golf here. Never found anything close to what you want to pay although I do not walk because they are quite hilly and I do not play executive courses
