Looking at the pic below, the one on North Ave appears to be on a corner similar to the one in the OP's clip. The one on Roswell is not on any corner and immediately follows a blind curve. I notice the others don't require a median taking up a segment of the turn lane because they are at intersections and not just flung randomly on the street.

Exactly.
Along those lines, here's something aggravates me as a driver. If I'm turning and there are pedestrians in my side of the crosswalk, I wait until they clear the street. But I often get drivers behind me honking for me to blast on through. Some even try to cut around me!
What is it with people who can't wait a few seconds for somebody to cross the street?

That location was probably selected because of the distance between traffic signals. So drivers would notice the crosswalk, a median was installed as a way of slowing traffic. It makes the road appear narrow.
