First I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to read my post. And hopefully you will be able to help me.

My mother is 53 and getting a divorce, she is relocating to Atlanta for her job. She is currently living in Southern California. I am living in North Carolina and will be meeting her next month to help in the house hunt.

I saw a stiky requesting the following information. So here it goes

1. Budget
Under $1,000

2. House/Condo/Townhome?
House or townhome preferred

3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)
Commute to work in Atlanta

4. Children(public school vs. private)
We are grown.

5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two
Suburban if possible but she would like to be able to walk to a coffee shop etc..

6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?
Public transportation is important and she would like her commute to be less than an hour.

7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.
Quiet area where people care about their property and keep it clean. SAFETY is VERY important to me. I will not be able to sleep at night worrying about my mother (I'm sure that was an unhealthy statement). Also, she will be relocating her mentally ill sister and most of the services are north of the city. My mom wants to have quick access to that area and her sister who will be in a home.

I appreciate your help

Atlanta is very spread out. Knowing which part of Atlanta she will be working in will be helpful in order to figure out the best location.

I want to cry - I am 52 years old and if anyone ever called me "an older woman" I would just die.

Sorry, I don't have specific advise for your request. But trust me, your mom is not old. Best of luck to her.

I'm so sorry, my mom had her first child when she was 20 and I'm 30 so at 53 she has really lived! She wouldn't care if I called her older. I'm horrible! Sorry about that.

Generally anywhere in the north eastern quarter inside the Atlanta perimeter is safe. Outside the perimeter, you can find some really really nice apartments in Sandy Springs, Roswell, or eastern Marietta areas, all west of 400 (highway). If you want to go even further north, Alpharetta and Johns Creek are even nicer, but cost of living is higher.
