Hello all...just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for finding less costly insurance for older homes in Atlanta (rental non owner occupied). I'm talking about homes built in the 1920s-30s. They're beautiful homes, but I've noticed a big premium difference between those built later and those in the early 1900s. I've been told it's the age of the home that's spiking it up, but can I get some feedback from those that own one? My current premium is about $1200 for a 1400sqft home (vs $600ish on a similar built "newer" home).

Thanks!

Interesting. I own one built in 1957 and I pay about 700 per yr. premium. Insurance company are managing risk. I wonder why they consider your home more risky than mine? Are you sure it's the house and not the location? Or location of a fire hydrant? Have you asked?

Location, age, condition. My house is renovated but was built in 1896 and the cheapest policy I have ever been able to get has been around $1300 a year because it is so old AND I live in the 30318.

I dont think age is as big a factor as is location, size, distance from fire station etc. They don't insure you against maintenance

I guess there's no way around it then. I was told it was just age. I guess it doesn't make sense because I was told it would cost more to replace the 1920s house than a 1950s house. But even if the house was damaged, wouldn't they be using the same material to rebuild it as they would to redo a newer home? I've shopped it some but can't get a straight answer from any agent. Looks like the pricing is about right which means I'm stuck. I was just hoping someone out there had better pricing.

Thanks for the responses....
