My guess would be ~30-35 minutes in the morning and 35-45 minutes in the afternoon.
10-15 minutes to highway 285 (depending on exactly location and lights)
7-15 minutes down 285
4-10 minutes down 400/whichever-surface-street-you-choose-in-Brookhaven

This commute would move faster in the morning and slower in the afternoon

Smyrna to Brookhaven is actually not that bad of a commute compared to other Metro Atlanta commutes, particularly if you know some back routes that do not necessarily require frequent use of the often severely-congested freeway system.

From Smyrna village to Brookhaven, one effective "back route" might be to:

>Take Atlanta Road Southbound to Spring Road and turn left on Spring Road Eastbound.

>Take Spring Road Eastbound to Cumberland Boulevard and turn right on Cumberland Boulevard.

>Take Cumberland Boulevard past Cumberland Mall and continue on around to Cobb Parkway.

>Turn right on Cobb Parkway Southbound and continue south on Cobb Parkway/Northside Parkway (US Hwy 41 Southbound) down to West Paces Ferry Road NW.

>Turn left on West Paces Ferry Road NW Eastbound and continue on West Paces Ferry Road NW Eastbound over to Peachtree Road.

>Turn left on Peachtree Road Northbound (GA Hwy 141), continue on P'tree Rd (GA 141) Northbound through the heart of the Buckhead Financial District into DeKalb County and on into Brookhaven.

This commute should take between 30-45 minutes depending on traffic and weather conditions and gives you the best chance of success because it keeps you off of the freeways, which matters particularly when conditions are the worst.

Much more manageable commute than Smyrna Village to Brookhaven as Tucker is about 4-6 miles closer to Brookhaven than is Smyrna Village.

A Tucker to Brookhaven commute can also be done without the use of the often severely rush hour-congested freeway system.

I hate driving from Smyrna to Brookhaven!

I make this drive often on early morning Saturday and occasionally during the week around 6:30pm. From Smyrna to Peachtree Road is okay - that part will take you 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. But the few extra miles up Peachtree Road (past Lenox/Phipps) to Brookhaven can take you another 15 minutes with traffic.

I give myself 30-45 minutes on average and more if it is during the week. I don't know what it is about this route but there is just no ideal that will keep you out of traffic. I have many different alternative paths depending on exactly where I am going but none is a hidden gem.

Can you be more specific as to where in Smyrna and where in Brookhaven?

I drive portions of this route pretty frequently also (vinings to lenox). I hate to say it, but 285-400 may be your best bet. I would not do West Paces Ferry (or West Wesley for that matter) to get to Peachtree in the morning. It is slammed.

285-400 is definitely one of my alternate routes. I don't know if it is necessarily faster but there are days I have no patience for the stop and go of the other options.

Hard to say. Both communities cover a lot of ground, so it depends on your starting and ending points. Chamblee-Tucker Rd to Dresden Dr would take you from the heart of Tucker to the heart of Brookhaven in about 20 minutes on a good day.
