Apparently, a study of how much poop is in pools was done using over 100 Atlanta area public pools. Not much in the line of dangerous was found (only 2% had parasites and the rest had only bacteria that can cause temporary rashes, etc). However, it's kind of gross. The take-away: Chlorine doesn't kill germs instantly. Make people shower before going into pools, take children to bathroom breaks ever hour, check diapers every 30 minutes, don't change diapers poolside, and don't swim when sick or when you have diarreah.

Well it's a good thing they don't test for urine! Most swimmers(competitive) pee in the pool. Both Micheal Phelps and Ryan Lochte admitted it! It's very hard to get some of those swimsuits off!

I have swimmer/water polo son, so were very familiar with this issue.

Kids have always pooped in pools, who cares? Still cleaner than Lake Lanier and the Hooch.
Fish poop and pee in the ocean.

I know it's gross, but urine is antiseptic so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Poop is much more important contamination.

yeah, but the ocean is huge. you're not going to get sick from another person by swimming in the ocean, everything dissipates so quickly. a pool is like swimming in a bathtub with other people.

I work for a hotel and no less than 1hr before I saw this posted on USA Today, the Executive team was talking about poop in the pool where we had to close for 2 days and 1/2 drain it to get it properly cleaned. Apparently this is a problem with Adults as much if not more than with children in the pool.

When my daughter had tubes in her ears, the ENT told us she could go swimming in a chlorine pool but not to get her head wet in the bathtub or in a lake or the ocean. . .Leading me to believe that bath, lake, and ocean water are nastier than pool water! I am sure there are times when my kids have gone swimming in contaminated water without my knowing, but they are still alive. If they lived on a farm, they would be shoveling manure. We love swimming in our neighborhood public pool and our immune systems are stronger for it!
