My husband will be relocating to Hewitt Associates in Atlanta. We are unfamiliar with the area, but have found some nice affordable(mid 100's) homes in family oriented master planned communities that we like. Some of these communities are in Newnan,Ga some in Cherokee County. According to members on these boards, both of these locations are far from the city as far as a commute goes.

We are not exactly sure where Hewitt Associates is located in reference to the metro area or these communities. If these communities are indeed far away, are there any nice, affordable, safe(most important), family friendly communities like Summergrove(Newnan) or Bridgemill/Great Sky(Canton) near Hewitt Associates(w/n a 25-30 minute commute on a good day)?

Well, seeing how both of Hewitt's offices in the Atlanta metro are on the north side of town (one near the 75/285 interchange, and the other near the 400/285 interchange), I'd say you'll want to forget about Newnan and anything south of the 285 loop.

Locations in Cherokee County could work if your husband can get into work early and out early- I live in northern Cherokee County, and leaving the house at 6am, I can be at the 75/285 interchange in around 30 minutes- at 8am, that same trip would be an hour (or more). The same goes for the afternoon- at 4:30 the trip is less than 45 minutes, but at 5:30 it can be 1.5 hours.

Thanks a lot! We are moving from Central Florida, and our traffic is horrible as well. In our area, it usually takes us about 30 minutes to get across the street during rush hour-literally, but then again, this is in the middle of rush hour. An hour sounds like a bit much.

Are there any nice communities near either Hewitt location?

,

No homes for anywhere near the price range you mentioned.
A 1 br. condo, perhaps.

LOL. Great. We are more interested in the burbs anyway, but are there any nice affordable, family oriented burbs closer to Hewitt that aren't more than a 40 minute(good drive) away? Is this asking too much around this area?

The closer you get to the city, the higher the pricing, generally. I'm actually surprised that you're finding anything nice in the mid-100's in Cherokee actually- both Bridgemill and GreatSky (which you mentioned in your original post) started much higher than that last time I checked.

Bridgemill starts in the 160's, Great Sky is the 220's. I was surprised as well, but pleasantly.
