I would agree that branding is important. What should we do be doing here in the ATL to spruce ours up?

Quote:
A branded product where real estate is concerned seems to be all the rage: one logo, and one message, instantly recognizable, and of course, which generates good feelings and a warm and fuzzy sensation for the consumer.

A brand and an image both seem inherently difficult for a city or submarket to control and refine. For example, my daughter went to college in Houston, and she said everyone in Houston thought people in Atlanta were either rednecks living in trailers on lawns with 4-foot tall grass, or members of the hip hop community.

I am not sure, if it had to choose, that Atlanta would embrace either of those perceptions as “yeah, that’s us alright - you nailed it,” but there it is. Brands for something this broad involve hundreds of images and touch-points a day, most of which are created by others and are not controlled by the city or submarket.

I'm not sure that we should cater to such ignorance anyway...anyone who thinks that Atlanta is all rednecks or hiphop really isn't of a very high intellectual capacity.

Agreed, if people are so content to buy into stereotypes without doing the slightest bit of analysis to find out the actual facts, I don't think it is the city's problem for not having a more cohesive "branding" image, it's those people's fault for being content to go though life as low information unintelligent dolts.

You ask a million dollar question. The Atlanta CVB has been dealing with Atlanta's brand for as long as I can remember. Every few years, they try to spruce it up and without exception fail miserably. The latest failure was the "Where every day is opening day" campaign. I'm sure another embarrassment is forthcoming.

Texans are the last one to want play with stereotypes, People in Houston think of 4-foot tall glass when they think of Atlanta? ironic.

Atlanta is known as a major center for hip hop that part is self explanatory 2 major awards shows, too many rappers to name many artists aren't even from Atlanta. And there was a study saying Atlanta was the leader in predicting overall music trends that largely because of hip hop. But it's fail to think every one in Atlanta likes Hip hop. Atlanta has a interesting history with rock music. I feel Atlanta's hipster, artsy, quirky, bohemian side is ignored. Apparently Atlanta had a major indie rocks scene during the 80s.

You see in some of the Beltline Art, and neighborhoods like little 5 points Atlanta still has some spirit of this. I'm not even that big of a rock fan, But I'm still wounder what happen? Austin is known for it's crazy scene even Athens is more known for it's indie Rock scene more so then Atlanta. Did this largely die off like Atlanta's urban Freaknic era did?

I know Atlanta is not Seattle or Poland. But Atlanta is one few major metro area this green and hilly. Atlanta is like a southern counter to Pittsburgh half of the Metro region is Appalachia. But people don't know this until they visit. We should stop with the cheesy branding slogans "every day is opening day" or "city lights southern nights" WTF and be real.

I've lived all over the past 15 years, NYC, SF, PDX, Boston, etc and it seems like those sorts of scenes have died out everywhere. I think urban gentrification shut down a lot of clubs and younger people's music habits are way different than they used to be. Kids hype bands on YouTube and then they start playing festivals and SNL before they even play small shows.

Except many people think this way....Shows like "Housewives of ATL" and "Love and Hip Hop Atlanta" are one of the reasons people think it's nothing but ghetto hoodrats and thugs.

It is also the "black mecca of America" and most people associate blacks with ghettoness. Lets be honest here.

Why else have I said all along that ATL is not world-class in most people eyes? For reasons explained in the quote in the OP's post.

It's because nothing said say ghetto like millionaire upperclass black women on TV. Yeah Let be honest people who fit your second statement are racists anyways. So Atlanta isn't "World Class" because people have racist thoughts of Black people.

True but Atlanta could of had it's own 6th street.

It's not like the city of Atlanta created those shows. Look at shows like Cheaters that take place in Dallas.

Seriously, if some one is just dumb or can't be bothered to look past stereotypes, especially ones on reality television then you aren't gonna convince them.
